DIGHTON — Roy “Barney” Martin, Jr., 85, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at Hays Medical Center in Hays.

He was born Oct. 12, 1932, in Garden City to Roy Miles and Leah Elizabeth Litzenberger Martin, Sr.

He married Charlotte Chapman on Jan. 6, 1957, in Clayton, N.M. She died on Aug. 6, 2015.

He grew up in Finney County and attended Garden City schools and Dighton High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After his discharge, he returned to the area and worked for area famers before going to work on the Road Maintenance Department for the Kansas Department Of Transportation. He enjoyed playing cribbage, dancing, working on demolition derby cars and fishing and hunting.

He is survived by two daughters, DeAnna Dumler-Hayes of Wichita and Monica Kleymann of Sedgwick; a son, Rodney Earl Martin of Arnold; two brothers, Virgil “Sonny” Martin and Darrell Martin, both of Dighton; two sisters, Edith Snyder of Park City and Betty Brungardt of Garden City; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a brother, Herman “Bud” Martin; and two sisters, Erma Martin and Marian Buell.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Dighton. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery, with military honors by American Legion Post # 190.
