Elsie Harper, 91, of Garden City, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Oct. 21, 1926, in Barnet, Middlesex, England, to Samuel Sidney and Amelia Sufanah Drewell Moffett.
On Aug. 23, 1947, she married Capt. Garlyn William Harper in Schonbrunn Palace, Vienna, Austria. He died in May 1993.
Mrs. Harper volunteered for the Red Cross working in the pharmacy, loved to gamble at casinos, play bridge and board games. As her husband was a career military man, she was a member of the base chapel on any post where they were stationed.
Survivors include a son, Rodney Harper of Garden City; a daughter, Sandra Harvey of Summerville, S.C.; a sister, Nellie Eighteen of Tiverton, Devon, England; two grandsons, Michael Harvey of John’s Island, S.C., and Richard Harvey of Dunkirk, N.Y.; three granddaughters, Rae Harper, Rox Ann Harper and Roz Jordan, all of Garden City; two great-grandsons, Ayden Harvey and Tatum Harvey, both of Dunkirk; and a great-granddaughter, Alana Harvey of John’s Island.
Graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. In recognition of Elsie’s favorite color, guests may wear purple to the service.
