Alifonsa Martinez de Aldana, 89, of Garden City, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. 

She was born Jan. 23, 1928, in Mestiquic, Jalisco, Mexico, to Refugio and Florencia Robles Martinez.

In 1944, she married Ignacio Aldana in Mexico. He died Nov. 30, 1995. She also was preceded in death by three children, Rosa Maria Aldana, Jesus Aldana and Santos Vega; three brothers; and three sisters.

A Garden City resident since 1985, Mrs. Aldana was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, feeding people and her pets, canning peppers, playing bingo, flowers, birds, dogs, jewelry, scratch tickets and attending garage sales.

Survivors include four sons, Fortino Aldana of Greeley, Colo., and Juan Aldana, Isidro Aldana and Uriel Ignacio Aldana, all of Garden City; six daughters, Rosalba Esqueda of Greeley, Blanca Corral, Maria Jesus Aldana, Antonia Carrasco and Ramona Elvira Ordones, all of Garden City, and Gloria Esqueda of Chihuahua, Mexico; a sister, Isidra Escobedo; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In all, her family consists of five generations. 

A rosary will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. 

Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Condolences may be posted at
