ULYSSES — Opal Maxine (Stimatze) Covey, 93, of Ulysses died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

She was born May 16, 1924, in rural St. John to Clyde Walter and Jennie Mae (DeGarmo) Stimatze.

She was a Ulysses resident since 1949, moving from Stafford County. She was a homemaker.

She graduated from Macksville High School in 1942.

On June 28, 1942, she married Ivan (Bill) Covey in Macksville.

She is survived by her sons, Gary Vernon Covey of Ulysses, and Jimmy Ray Covey of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Lois Spencer of Ulysses; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; four brothers, Carrol, Truman, Leo and Orban Stimatze; and one sister, Ruby Brickey.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
