ELKHART —  Sammy Ray McGuire, Sr., 82, of Elkhart, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at Morton County Senior Living Community, Elkhart.

He was born Dec. 21, 1934, in Chillicothe, Texas, to Nolan Rector McGuire and Effie Marie (Richmond) McGuire.

He grew up and attended school in Texas. He served in the National Guard for four years. He served as the director of public works in Breckenridge, Texas, for 33 years, before he and his family moved to Elkhart in 1988. While living in Elkhart, he worked for Nusser Oil Co. for 18 years, before retiring.

On Nov. 20, 1954, he married Dorothy (Dot) Ann Gardner in Clovis, N.M. She preceded him in death on May 24, 2005.

He is survived by two sons, Ray McGuire of Elkhart, and Stewart (Randy) McGuire of Roswell, N.M.; a brother; GF McGuire of Dennison, Texas; numerous grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his parents and a sister; Joyce Thomas.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Elkhart Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Elkhart.
