Delores E. Long, 97, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born Jan. 18, 1920, in Courtland to Martin A. and Hannah L. Peterson Larson.
She grew up in Courtland, where she attended school and graduated from high school. She then moved to Topeka, where she worked as a beauty operator for several years. In 1952, she moved to Garden City. A homemaker, she later worked at the Finney County Public Library for 28 years. She was a member of the Community Congregational Church of Garden City, a Sunday school teacher for many years, and served as a den mother in Cub Scouts. She enjoyed music, reading, crossword puzzles, baking, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends.
On June 12, 1940, she married Ben F. Long in Topeka. He died Sept. 3, 2004.
Delores also was preceded in death by a son, Gary Long; and six sisters, Myrtle Nondorf, Delpha Grim, Mary Smith, Edna Dickie, Edyth Coleman and Wilma Butler.
She is survived by two sons, Brian Long and wife Nancy of Garden City, and Danny Long of Garden City; a sister, Winifred Kruger of Topeka; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, and 9 a.m. to service time Monday, all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
