DIGHTON — Neil McWhirter, 73, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, at his home in Lane County.

He was born May 1, 1944, in Lane County to Elgin Clifford and Iva Lucille Mumma McWhirter.

He married Patricia Castle on March 27, 1964, in Dighton.

He later married Donna Jo Miller on Dec. 4, 1976, in Dighton. She died on Nov. 19, 1986.

He then married Sara Reif on July 30, 2005, in Dighton.

He graduated from Dighton High School in 1962. He was a lifelong farmer-stockman in Lane County. He enjoyed rodeos and riding horses. He also competed in demolition derbies, helped with circle track racing, owned a rear engine dragster and competed in street legal drag racing.

He is survived by his wife, Sara McWhirter of the home; three daughters, Marlece O’Brien and Regina McWhirter of Dighton, and Teara McWhirter of Kingman, Ariz.; a stepson, Heath Albert of Lawrence; two granddaughters, Madison O’Brien and Kenadee O’Brien; and his Oklahoma children, Lena Vandiver and Jessica and Loc Nguyen and their daughters, Jennie and Olivia Nguyen, all of Yukon, Okla.
