LEOTi — John Eugene Smith, 73, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti.
He was born May 25, 1944, in Amarillo, Texas, to Cecil Elmer and Nan Doris Caldwell Smith.
In 1968, he graduated from West Texas State University with a degree in business management. John and his family first lived in Leoti from 1976 until 1985, when they moved to Texas. In 1993, they returned to Leoti, where he was manager of Mel’s Foodliner, later named Leoti Foods.
On Sept. 2, 1967, he married Charlotte Tutt in Abilene, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Smith of Leoti; three daughters, Nancy Moore of Midland, Texas, Melissa Butts of Wichita, and Carrie Biermann of Leoti; three siblings, Bill Smith of Georgetown, Texas, Patsy Vender of Fayetteville, Ga., and Nancy Kort of Fort Worth, Texas; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Abundant Life Fellowship Church in Leoti. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti.
Memorials may be given to Abundant Life Fellowship Church or Heartland Care Cancer Center, in care of the funeral home.
