DIGHTON — Linda Kay Shaffer, 63, of Dighton, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at Hays Medical Center in Hays.
She was born Feb. 4, 1954, in Great Bend, to Alan and Annabelle Winger Spencer. She graduated from Scott City High School in 1972.
In March 1973, she married Richard Hemel in Scott City. On Feb. 14, 1991, she married Richard Shaffer in Dighton.
A homemaker, Mrs. Shaffer had worked in Dighton at the Kwik Shop and Dighton Bowl & Diner. She enjoyed reading, bowling, NASCAR (especially Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Clint Boyer), arts and craft shows, cross stitching, her sister’s weekends with the Shaffer in-laws, attending the Twins Conventions with her sister and was an avid KU fan.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Shaffer of the home; a daughter, Heather Hemel of Salina; five sons, Mark and Cheri Gillett of Scott City, David Shaffer and Shelley Koski of Moose Lake, Minn., Mike Shaffer of Kasilos, Alaska, and Christian Shaffer and Anthony Shaffer, both of the home; three sisters, Pennie Spencer of Great Bend, Cathy Savolt of Andale, and her twin sister, Brenda Love of Hoisington; seven grandchildren, Wesley Hemel, Christopher Hemel, Emma Kay Hemel, Justin Shaffer, Tayler Shaffer, Alyssa Shaffer and Jordan Shaffer; uncles and aunts, including Marshall Spencer of Colwich, Rob and Patte Spencer of Andale; and great-uncle and aunt Eldo and Bretha Miller of Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Wes Spencer.
Funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Dighton. Burial will be at Dighton Memorial Cemetery.
