SYRACUSE — Jerry Valentine, 78, of Syracuse, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. 

He was born April 19, 1939, in Syracuse, to Joe and Opal Mae Hazelton Valentine. He graduated from Syracuse High School.  

A lifetime resident of Hamilton County, Mr. Valentine worked for Wheatland Electric as a journeyman lineman and retired as the line foreman after 37 years of service. He enjoyed his horses, rodeos, sports, watching the Pioneer Woman Cooking Show, feeding his quail, shooting BB’s at the blackbirds, good homemade vanilla ice cream and supervising farm activities. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

On May 1, 2005, he married Vicki S. Cole in Syracuse. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Steven Alan and Andrea Valentine of North Richland Hills, Texas; two stepsons, Jason and Rene Cole of Syracuse, and Kent Bless of Dallas; a stepdaughter, Brandy Cole of Syracuse; a sister, Ruth Reveile of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Heather Jo Burrows; a stepson, Danny Valentine; and five brothers, Tommy, Raymond, Richard, Norman and Curtis Valentine.

Graveside service will begin at 11 a.m. MDT Monday at Syracuse Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted. 

Visitation hours are 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Southern Baptist Church in Syracuse. Condolences may be posted at Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or Syracuse V.F.W., both in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
