Santiago Herrera Sr., 78, of Garden City, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, in Ventura, Zacatecas, Mexico.
He was born Aug. 5, 1939, in Ventura, to Jose and Maria Soledad Vasquez Herrera.
On June 3, 1967, he married Maria Elena Hernandez in Los Sauces, Zacatecas. She died Aug. 16, 2014. He also was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Pedro Antonio Herrera, Juan Herrera, Geronimo Herrera, Jose Herrera, Manuel Herrera, Juana Herrera, Quirina Herrera, Aurora Herrera, Irene Herrera, Ofelia Herrera and Consuelo Herrera.
Mr. Herrera was employed for BPI for 20 years, before retiring to return to raising farm animals.
Survivors include two sons, Santiago Herrera Jr. and Jose Luis Herrera, both of Garden City; five daughters, Pascuala Herrera, Quirina Herrera, Azucena Herrera and Sandra Herrera, all of Garden City, and Teresa Herrera of Virginia; two sisters, Agripina Herrera and Raquel Herrera, both of Mexico; 22 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City.
