John B. Hill, 60, of Garden City, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. 

He was born Dec. 11, 1956, in Garden City, to Robert “Doc” and Betty Jackson Hill. He attended Holcomb schools.

After his schooling, Mr. Hill worked for area farmers before becoming a diesel mechanic. He later was an owner-operator of a semi hauling grain and then went back into mechanics and farming. He enjoyed gardening and canning his crop, hunting, fishing, camping and being involved with his grandsons. He also enjoyed spending time with his pet rat, Ralph.

On April 17, 1976, he married Darlene McLinn in Garden City. On Aug. 11, 1984, he married Pam Douglas in Garden City. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Shawn and Cody Hill, both of Garden City, and Robert Hill of Hugoton; a daughter, Stacy Castoe of Garden City; his mother, Betty Hill of Holcomb; three brothers, Paul Hill of Garden City, Mark Hill of Lakin, and James Hill of Holcomb; three sisters, Patricia King of Middletown, Conn., Linda Maddox of Spring, Texas, and Nancy Vaughn of Lakin; and 10 grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Mike Hill.

Vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Michaels Cemetery in Fulton.
