Joe D. Torres, 57, of Garden City, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. 

He was born Jan. 14, 1960, in Uvalde, Texas, to Juan and Francisca DeLeon Torres. He attended Copeland schools and worked for area farmers. 

On June 17, 1983, he married Patricia Guitron in Sublette. After his marriage, he moved to Plains and worked for Collingwood Grain for 15 years. In 1990, he moved to Garden City and was a longtime employee of Western Irrigation, where he was a truck driver and irrigation sprinkler installer.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Josephine Torres of Garden City; a son, Joe Torres Jr. of Garden City; six sisters, Lupe Torres of Copeland, Isabelle Martinez, Rosa Montemayor and Connie Torres, all of Sublette, Asencion Ornelas of Garden City, and Mary Barnhart of Dodge City; two brothers, John Torres and Frank Torres, both of Sublette; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Manuel Torres and Raul Torres.

Funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. 

Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
