John K. Carter, 79, of Kendall, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017.

He was born July 28, 1938, in Lakin to Robert Stanley Carter and Valta Viola Klotz Carter.

He was born in the country near Lakin and later moved to Ulysses, where he attended Ulysses High School and graduated in 1957.

Shortly after graduation, he married Marilyn O’halloran. They later divorced.

On June 19, 1968, he married Margaret Fae Lane in Garden City. In 1969, he moved to south of Lakin and began farming with his brother, Dale Carter, and the business became known as the Carter Brother’s Farm. He retired in 2000 and moved to Kendall.

He is survived by a son, Patrick Carter of Mathis, Texas; four daughters, Cynthia Young of Bozeman, Mt., Brenda Blake of Syracuse, Christina Rivas and Peggy Carter , both of Belton, Mo.; three sisters, Wanda Dalquist of Bartlesville, Okla., Nancy Boyd of Genoa, Colo., and Ruby Campbell of Lakin; 23 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse, Margaret Fae Lane Carter; a son, John Kinstley Carter; four brothers, Dale Carter, Robert Carter, Francis Carter and Franklin Carter; and a sister, Alta Carter.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at the Kendall Cemetery in Kendall.
