KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Steven Wayne Ferguson, 64, died on August 6, 2017, at his home in Kansas City after a decline in health.
He is survived by his father, Delmar Ferguson, Overland Park, KS; brothers, Ron (Pam) Ferguson, Winchester, IN, Dwight (Marlene) Ferguson, Hutchinson, KS; and sisters, Angela (Pete) Allard, Raytown, MO, Rhonda (Sam) Scofield, Smith Center, KS; and nieces and nephews, Karissa (Goering) Collins, Katrina (Goering) Caldwell, John Allard, Rachel Allard, Adam Ferguson, and Jarod Ferguson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Elaine; and his mother, Pearl Grace (Johnson) Ferguson.
Steve graduated from Haven High School in 1970 and was known for having an adventurous spirit. He traveled the country throughout his life, residing in Kansas, Missouri, California, Wyoming, Texas, and Florida. Some of his favorite moments were spent at the ocean's edge in Vero Beach, Florida.
A gifted mechanic, Steve spent much time with his father under the hood of many cars. He also inherited a wonderful quality from his mother and always remembered family birthdays and special holidays with a phone call or a card in the mail. A nurturing, tender spirit, he loved his family and friends dearly but throughout his life, he struggled with alcoholism and was never able to truly love himself.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. on September 13 in the Wesley Chapel at United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, Leawood, KS.
