Myrtle Elsie Holliday White, age 78, born May 30, 1939, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2017, at her home in Syracuse, Kansas.
Myrtle was born in Manhattan, KS. Myrtle grew up in Randolph, KS and graduated from Randolph High School. She started dating Paul Ward White while working for Farm Bureau in Manhattan, KS.
Myrtle married Paul on June 11, 1960, in Manhattan, KS at the First Presbyterian Church. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Hutchinson, KS and then Garden City, KS. While living in Garden City, KS they welcomed Kevin to their family in 1963. They then moved to Syracuse, KS where they welcomed Michelle into the family in 1966. Myrtle and Paul were married for 57 years.
Myrtle was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Syracuse where she also served as a Trustee. She spent over 20 years teaching Sunday school, vacation bible school and sponsoring the youth group. She later volunteered at the Budget Shop and was Courtesy Chairman for the church.
Myrtle was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi for 50 years. She also played in several bridge groups in the community. She also helped with 4-H, teaching young children cooking skills. She also loved to spend time with her grandchildren teaching them how to cook, garden and preserve food.
She also served on the Hamilton County Extension Adult Scholarship Board and the board of the Budget Shop.
Myrtle worked for the local Allis-Chalmers dealership in Syracuse, KS before beginning a long tenure of 30 plus years at USDA-Farmers Home Administration. She was also active in the Kansas Association of County Office Clerks.
Myrtle was also involved in the exchange program with a sister school in Mexico. She and Paul hosted three different daughters, Adriana, Susana and Jessica, while they attended school in Syracuse. She and Paul also sponsored trips to Mexico as well as hosting other students.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Mildred Holliday; and her grandson, Corbin Wayne Lillibridge-White.
Survivors include her husband Paul of the home; son Kevin of Roeland Park, KS; daughter Michelle and partner Steve Buchanan of Syracuse, KS; and grandson Kendrick and wife Lindsey of Elkhart, KS; her sister, Betty and Arnold Loeckle of Denver, CO; and sister, Lorraine and Dick Stone of Emporia, KS.
Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Syracuse, KS on Monday, August 14, 2017, at 10 a.m. (MT). Burial will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery.
