Marilyn Black

ULYSSES — Marilyn F. Black, 85, of Ulysses, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

She was born April 17, 1926, in Garden City, to Altho "Faye" and Freddis Fern Thomas Hands. She graduated from Garden City High School.

A Ulysses resident since 1953, Mrs. Black worked at Grant County Bank and was the owner of High Plains Cleaners in Ulysses.

She was married to Raymond Hacker for 25 years. She then married Jackson W. Black on July 5, 1975, in Ulysses. He died Dec. 3, 2000. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Raymond D. Hacker; two brothers, Dale and Donnie Hands; and four sisters, Teresa Smith, Pat Cochran, Evelyn Miller and Barbara Schremmer.¬ 

Survivors include three sons, Clifford "Butch" Hacker of Emporia, Forrest "Frosty" Hacker of Chandler, Okla., and Chuck Hacker of Ulysses; a daughter, Mary Ann Grimes of Amarillo, Texas; a brother, Ronald Hands of Berryville, Ark.; a sister, Bonnie Hardin of Denver; five grandchildren; two stepgrandsons; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ulysses. Burial will follow at Ulysses Cemetery.

Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. John's Episcopal Church of Ulysses, in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS 67880.
