Verna Jibben

Verna M. Jibben, 64, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at her home in Garden City.

She was born April 6, 1947, in Pueblo, Colo., to Mary Ann Allen. She attended Garden City schools.

A Garden City resident for most of her life, she was a homemaker and worked as a cook in various restaurants.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph Jibben of Weaverville, Calif., and Jay Jibben of St. Joseph, Mo.; eight daughters, Mary Varela of Las Vegas, Nev., Tammy Harris of California, Cheryl Bosnick of Joplin, Mo., Janelle Torres, Jennifer Jibben, Ramona Escobedo and Alicia Delgado, all of Garden City, and Tonya Carter of Deerfield; two sisters, Leatha Curnett of Wichita, and D.J. Curnett of Joplin; 39 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother; three brothers, Butch, Doc and Tommy Curnett; and a sister, Betty Cruz.

A celebration of Verna's life will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Burial will follow at Christ the King Lutheran Cemetery in Dodge City.

Visitation hours are 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Condolences may be emailed to garnandfh@sbcglobal.net. Memorials to the Verna M. Jibben Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St., Garden City, KS 67846.
