Ed "Whoppie" Biernacki, 87, of Garden City, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Dec. 26, 1925, in Garden City, to Francis Joseph and Rosa Wolf Biernacki.
A lifetime resident of Garden City, Mr. Biernacki worked as a mechanic for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 39 years, retiring in 1987. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Eagles Lodge, National Guard and AARP.
Survivors include two brothers, John F. Biernacki of Bridgeport, Neb., and Ivan Biernacki of Pearl River, La.; a sister, Sister Francis Biernacki of Great Bend; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City.
