Alfred Steimel

Alfred F. Steimel, 88, of Wright, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at Trinity Manor Nursing Home in Dodge City.

He was born May 20, 1923, on a farm in Spearville, to Adolph and Anna Durler Steimel. He graduated from Spearville High School.

In 1946, he married Evelyn Doll.

Mr. Steimel had a long career in agricultural economics that included many years as the manager of the Right Cooperative Association, Doll-Steimel Agricultural Insurance Agency, and management of wheat, cattle and land. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Charles K. Steimel of Ingalls, Dirck Steimel of Des Moines, Iowa, and Lyndon Steimel of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four daughters, Alison Arnett of Boston, Denise Galarraga of Medford, Ore., Leah Steimel of Albuquerque, N.M., and Sarah Ryder of Topeka; a brother, Raymond Steimel of Bethesda, Md.; two sisters, Theresa Baragaree of Dodge City, and Bertha Woodard of Wichita; and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gregg Steimel; his twin sister, Agnes Zoth; a sister, Florence Feldman; and two brothers, Herman and Louis Steimel.

Vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Wright. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will follow at St. Andrew's Cemetery in Wright.

Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com. Memorials are suggested to the Gregg Steimel Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of the funeral home.
