Elnora Elizabeth Sloan Butler, 89, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at Homestead Health & Rehabilitation Center in Garden City.She was born May 24, 1923, in Pawnee County, to George and Harriet Myers Hahn.
A resident of Garden City since 1945, Mrs. Butler was a farm wife and homemaker. She was a member of the Catholic faith, a charter member of Happy Homemakers FCE, and a charter member and past president of the Eagles Auxiliary, all at Garden City. She enjoyed cake decorating, dancing, craft sewing, and deer and coyote hunting, was a 4-H cooking leader and loved to play card games.
On July 11, 1943, she married Gene R. Sloan in Larned. He died July 20, 1979, in Garden City. On Sept. 19, 1980, she married Verle W. Butler in Raton, N.M. He died June 28, 1999, in Garden City. She also was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, a sister, three sons-in-law and a daughter-in-law.
Survivors include a son, Jay Sloan of Garnett; three daughters, Jo Rinehart of Lakin, Kaye Nichols of Holcomb, and Sue Keeny of Garden City; a sister, Marie Unruh of Cheyenne Wells, Colo.; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Vigil and rosary service will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Garden City.
Visitation hours are 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City. Condolences may be sent to www.priceandsons.com.
