Alice Bates

Alice Laura Bates, 103, of Seneca and formerly of Dodge City, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at the Life Care Center of Seneca.

She was born Sept. 23, 1909, in Medora, to William and Winifred Barnes Reed.

On Aug. 15, 1988, she married V.A. Bates. He preceded her in death.

She also was preceded in death by three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Chester, Ray, William and Jesse Reed; and four sisters, Mary Wells, Vica Rucker, Ruby Adamson and Harriet Withrow.

Survivors include three sons, Jack Alvin Bates of Talihina, Okla., Robert Dennis Bates of Dodge City, and Montie Edward Bates of Sublette; two daughters, Linda Lou Brannan of Seneca, and Verna Sue Weber of Garden City; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Bates has been cremated and an inurnment graveside service will be held at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City.

Memorials may be left to the Alice Bates Memorial for Seneca Life Care Center or the charity of the donor's choice, in care of Popkess Memorial Chapel, Seneca.
