A Garden City teacher has been cited for theft after allegedly shoplifting various items from a local grocery store.

Dale Sekavec, 65, 5520 N. VFW Road, a special education teacher at Garden City High School, was cited and released at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Dillons, 1305 E. Kansas Ave., on an allegation of theft.

Garden City police Sgt. Michael Reagle said Sekavec allegedly shoplifted various items worth $60 from the store and was caught by store employees.

Roy Cessna, USD 457 public information officer, said district officials have no comment on the incident, and cited the issue as a personnel matter.

Sekavec could not be reached for comment.
