Fall picnic coming up Sunday afternoon

The Finney County Historical Society will host its annual fall picnic at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Finney County 4-H Building.

The main dish, table service and drinks will be provided. Bring one side dish to share.

Kansas Humanities Council speaker Leo Oliva will give a program titled, "Kansas Military Forts." This presentation will examine the history of military forts in Kansas and their continuing influence in the present day. Oliva is a retired professor of history at Fort Hays State University and author of several books on frontier military history.

St. Mary's bierocks orders due Friday

St. Mary's Catholic School is having its annual bierocks fundraiser, with orders due by Friday.

The cost is $20 a dozen and $11 for a half dozen, with the orders ready Oct. 26 and 27.

Orders may be placed with a St. Mary's student or by calling the school at 276-2241.

'Gospel Gold' music group to perform

A Christian music program featuring the music group "Gospel Gold" will begin at 7 tonight at Garden Valley Retirement Village, 1505 E. Spruce St.

The group members are from Dodge City and Montezuma.

The public is encouraged to attend at no charge.

German supper, auction coming up

The 15th annual German supper and auction at Garden Valley Retirement Village, 1505 E. Spruce St., is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

The event will feature homemade German foods and live entertainment from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Entertainers will be Alice Childers on accordion and Gwyneth Frack on piano for polka time from 4:30 to 4:55 p.m.; Billy and Loretta Whitfield from Syracuse offering toe-tappin' time from 5 to 6:20 p.m.; and Joe and Jon Irsik's old-time fiddle music from 6:25 to 7:30 p.m.

All proceeds will be used to buy Christmas presents for GVRV residents, Russell Child Development Center and The Alzheimer's Association.

Meal tickets may be purchased by calling 275-9651.

Library board to meet Monday afternoon

The Finney County Public Library board of directors will meet at 5 p.m. Monday at the library, 605 E. Walnut St.
