Page opportunities available with Sen. Love
State Sen. Garrett Love is seeking students between ages 12 and 18 to serve as pages for a day during the 2013 legislative session at the state capitol in Topeka. In addition to paging, students will get to meet and have a photo taken with Gov. Sam Brownback.
"This can be a great experience for students to learn more about our government and realize the importance of getting involved," Love said.

Huelskamp to address farm and ranch show
Congressman Tim Huelskamp will address attendees of the Garden City Farm and Ranch Show at noon on Jan. 24.
A fifth-generation farmer, Huelskamp recently began his second term as a U.S. Representative. He will provide brief remarks and then will take questions from the audience. Huelskamp is expected to address a number of critical issues facing farmers and ranchers, including the drought, crop insurance, overregulation, taxes, trade, energy and farm policy.

KDOT announces approved December bids
The Kansas Department of Transportation announced approved bids for state highway construction and maintenance projects in Kansas from Dec. 19 letting in Topeka.
Projects in District Six, which covers Southwest Kansas, include:
* Ness County - Milling and overlay of 16.9 miles of K-96 from Ness City east to the Ness/Rush county line. APAC Kansas Inc. Shears Division, Hutchinson. $1.94 million.
* KDOT mix-strip just east of Ness City to stockpile bituminous material. APAC Kansas Inc. Shears Division, Hutchinson. $83,560.
Tribune woman named to KSF board
Christy Hopkins of Tribune has been named to the Kansas Sampler Foundation board of directors.
Founded in 1992 by Mil Penner and daughter Marci Penner, the mission of the Inman-based non-profit is to preserve and sustain rural culture.
Hopkins currently serves as the community development director for Unified Greeley County. She is a Class X graduate of the Kansas Agriculture and Rural Leadership program and a Kansas Health Foundation Fellow, and also a core-team member of the PowerUps, a Kansas Sampler Foundation initiative dedicated to the empowerment and connection of Kansans aged 21-39 who are rural by choice.
Hopkins also serves on the boards of the Western Kansas Rural Economic Development Association and Wild West Country (southwest Kansas tourism region).
In Tribune, Hopkins serves as secretary for Growing the Vision: A Foundation for the Future of Greeley County and treasurer of The Star Theater of Tribune, a community-owned movie theater.
