Thieves targeting pickup tailgates

SHAWNEE (AP) -- Police in a northeast Kansas county are looking into several cases of thieves making off with tailgates from pickup trucks.

At least three pickup owners have had their tailgates ripped off just this month in the Johnson County town of Shawnee, in the Kansas City metro area. Overland Park police told KCTV they've had two cases.

Shawnee police say the crimes have happened in different parts of the city, on various makes and models of pickups. They're not sure why someone would steal a tailgate, but they speculate the thieves are taking them as replacement parts or scrap metal.

One pickup owner says he's putting off replacing his missing tailgate, figuring it's going to cost $900 to have a new one installed and painted to match his truck.

Company plans gas pipeline

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- An Oklahoma company plans a pipeline pegged at about $500 million to move natural gas liquids from North Dakota's oil patch.

Tulsa-based Oneok Partners says the pipeline would run from western North Dakota through eastern Montana to Cheyenne, Wyo. In Wyoming, it would link with the company's Overland Pass Pipeline, which stretches 760 miles to Conway.

Brad Borror, a company spokesman, says the proposed pipeline would cost between $450 million and $550 million and would originate at a yet-to-be-determined location in western North Dakota.

He says the pipeline would transport up to 60,000 barrels a day of natural-gas liquids such as methane, propane, butane, ethane and natural gasoline.
