Champion fiddler coming to town

Champion fiddler coming to town

Dan Levenson, a champion fiddler and banjo artist, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Community Congregational Church, 710 N. Third St.

He also will lead a workshop for pickers and fiddlers from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the church. Suggested donation at the door is $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors.

Both events are made possible by Strings and Friends, the concert series of the String Academy of the Plains.

Get set, get healthy Saturday at YMCA

A free family event featuring games, swimming, inflatables and local businesses with community information is set for 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Garden City Family YMCA, 1224 Center St.

The "Healthy Kids Day" event will focus on building a happier, healthier kid. A free T-shirt will be given to the first 50 youth in attendance.

Spanish story time set for Saturday

A Spanish story time is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the Nature Explore classroom on the west side of the Finney County Public Library, 605 E. Walnut St.

"Dia De Los Niños" (Day Of The Children) will feature music, games, pizza, piñatas, cake, ice cream and prizes.

In case of inclement weather, the event will take place in the Finnup and Hutchison rooms inside the library.

YMCA starts boot camp session Monday

Garden City Family YMCA will start Session four of Boot Camp on Monday. The class meets from 5:45 to 6:45 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The four-week, high-intensity, total body workout will be taught by Susan Cornish, a NETA certified instructor; and Ivan Gonzales, an ANSI Crossfit Level 1 coach who spent four years in the Marine Corps.

Running clinic set for Saturday

Garden City Recreation Commission is hosting a running clinic May 10, sponsored by GoRun Wichita. GoRun Wichita is bringing its knowledgeable staff to Garden City for a one-day event consisting of proper shoe fitting, a running form clinic, and a "Why We Run" presentation.

The event is for all ages and abilities. Shoes will be available for purchase after a fitting with the GoRun Wichita staff. Non-runners and walkers are welcome. All activities will be in the GCRC gymnasium, 310 N. Sixth St.

The event's tentative schedule includes shoe fittings at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.; the "Why We Run" presentation at 10:30 a.m.; and the running form clinic at 1:30 p.m.
