Dighton boys win, South Gray girls fall

Dighton 45,
La Crosse 40
At La Crosse, the Dighton boys basketball team used a strong two middle quarters to get a 45-40 win over La Crosse on Tuesday night.
Ryan Horn and Ryan Kuhlman led the Hornets with 13 points each, and combined to make seven of Dighton’s 10 3-pointers, with Kuhlman hitting four. Down 14-7 after the first quarter, the Hornets outscored the Leopards 31-14 in the second and third quarters combined. Trevor Bollinger and Isaac Alinor each had six points for Dighton.
Kip Keeley had a game-high 19 points for La Crosse, which was held to five points in the third, as Dighton built a 10-point lead entering the final quarter. Taylor Yohe added seven points for the Leopards, and Lucas Moeder and William Storie had six apiece.
The Hornets improved to 5-0 with the win. Dighton hosts Wallace County at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Girls
Spearville 52, South Gray 41
At Montezuma, the Spearville girls basketball team used a big fourth quarter to pull away from South Gray for a 52-41 road win on Tuesday.
Spearville’s Emily Slattery led all scorers with 18 points, while Taylor Offerle added 11. The Lady Lancers had a three-point lead entering the fourth quarter, but outscored the Lady Rebels 19-11 in the final period.
Whitney Wright led the Lady Rebels with nine points and eight rebounds, while Myranda Axtell chipped in eight, and Raine Torres had six points and a steal. Six South Gray players scored at least four points, and Dani Smith added two assists.
After being outscored 15-8 in the first quarter, the Lady Rebels made it a four-point game at halftime.
South Gray next plays at Ingalls at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
