A City Link bus was involved an a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning near Garden City Community College.

According to Garden City police Sgt. Michael Reagle, the bus was legally parked on the south side of 1800 E. Spruce St. at the bus stop with its hazard lights on.

Elmer Hammerschidt, 84, was eastbound on Spruce Street in a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix when he became distracted by the sun and veered into the driver's side back of the bus, then struck the front driver's fender area of the bus.

Reagle said Everett Simmons, 74, the City Link driver, was the only person on the bus at the time of the crash.

Police reported no injuries and no citations issued, Reagle said.

The Grand Prix had to be towed, Reagle said.
