Registration is requested at www.sonsofthunderswks.com. The February meeting is a "Bring Your Sweetheart" event.

Sons Of Thunder is an interdenominational group of Christian men that has only one agenda: to "break down the walls that separate men from knowing Jesus Christ."

The monthly meetings feature a free meal, fellowship, worship and a guest speaker.

Missionary Conference

"The Gospel, the World, the End" is the theme of this year's missionary conference at Pierceville Federated Church. The featured speakers are Blake McDaniel, church partnership facilitator with Pioneers, a missionary sending agency headquartered in Orlando, Fla.; and Robby Nutter, director of Christian Challenge, a campus ministry at Kansas State University in Manhattan. Both will share in sessions throughout the weekend. There also will be a special children's program Saturday night with Kaitlyn Harmer, CEF missionary from Ingalls.

The Rev. Terry Major and the congregation invite the public to join in the activities, including a soup supper at 6:30 tonight; and a men's breakfast at 7 a.m., a women's brunch at 10 a.m. at Saundra McGraw's, and sandwiches, homemade ice cream and special sessions for children, teens and adults at 6:30 p.m., all on Saturday. On Sunday, missionaries will share in the 9:45 a.m. Sunday school classes and during the 10:45 a.m. worship service. A carry-in dinner will begin at 12:05 p.m., followed by the closing program and challenge at 1:15 p.m.

All sessions are open to the public. For more information, call the church at (620) 335-5228.

Faith in the face of disaster

What happens to religious faith when hard times come will be explored at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lifetree Café, 3101 Campus Drive.

The program, "Where Is God When Life Turns Tough?," features the filmed story of John Stumbo, a healthy ultra-marathoner who was suddenly attacked by an undiagnosable, life-threatening illness.

"I discovered the faith I claimed as a child was being tested in a new way," Stumbo said. "It was being tested in an ICU ward, facing life or death."

Participants will discuss what happens to faith in the face of disappointment and disaster.

Admission to the 60-minute event is free. Snacks and beverages are available.

Lifetree Café is a place where people gather for conversation about life and faith in a casual coffeehouse-type setting.
