Eight injured in collision

Eight people, including two adults, five children and an infant, sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday night near the intersection of U.S. Highways 83 and 50.
Terri Lara, 21, Tina L. Botos-Knight, 17, Isac Lara, 3, Ivan Lara, 4, Michael Lara, 6, Timothy Lara, 5, and Xavier Lara, infant, all of Garden City, as well as Jonathan Agraz, 18, Wichita, were taken to St. Catherine Hospital, where they were treated and released for their injuries. The accident occurred about one mile south of the U.S. 83/U.S. 50 intersection.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, at about 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, Terri Lara was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer northbound on U.S. 83 when she lost control of the vehicle on ice and then collided head-on with a 2002 Chevy Silverado, driven by Douglas C. Peterson, 50, Garden City, who was southbound on U.S. 83. Both vehicles came to rest upright.
According to the KHP, only Agraz was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Peterson was uninjured.
