TODAY, DEC. 8

Garden City Tuba Christmas Concert: 3 p.m. on Grant Avenue in downtown Garden City. Public admission is free; music fee of $5 for participating tuba players. All tuba players are invited to take part. For more information, call Barbara Salinas at 276-5705 or Jim McAllister at 276-9544.

Christmas Parade: 6 p.m. in downtown Garden City and also featuring vendors offering hot apple cider, hot chocolate, roasted nuts, popcorn and other goodies for parade watchers.

Old Tyme Christmas Caroling: Community Sing-along with the Salem Mennonite Choir and guests, 6:30 to 7 p.m. at Stevens Park in downtown Garden City.

Carriage rides: Free rides given from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, beginning at the corner of Main and Spruce streets, just north of Stevens Park.

Garden City Community College Art Faculty Exhibition: Featuring two-dimensional works by instructor Kyle Chaput and three-dimensional creations by instructor Brian McCallum in Mercer Gallery in the west wing of the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building on campus, 801 Campus Drive. Viewing hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Free admission. Exhibition on view through Dec. 20 and includes a public reception from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 16. Exhibition also open Jan. 14 to 26, 2013.

"Shepherd's Comedy": A medieval dinner theater presented by High Plains Home Educators high school students, 6:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1010 Fleming St. Free-will donations will be accepted. For reservations, call (620) 397-5055.

SUNDAY, DEC. 9

"Sights & Sounds of Christmas": Featuring traditional Christmas music and refreshments, 1:30 to 4 p.m. at Garden Valley Retirement Village, 1505 E. Spruce St., plus tours of the village. Performers will include the Garden City Humdinger Band from 1:30 to 2 p.m., Don Eves from 2:05 to 2:45 p.m., Half Fast Singers from 2:45 to 3:25 p.m. and the Mennonite Men's Quartet from 3:30 to 4 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend. Winter concert: Featuring "String Academy of the Plains," 3 p.m. at Community Congregational Church, 710 N. Third St., followed by a reception.

American Legion Riders Community Breakfast: Featuring biscuits, gravy, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, potatoes, French toast, coffee and orange juice, 8 to 11 a.m. at 405 S. Main St. Cost for the all-you-can-eat meal is $8 for adults, $5 for age 8 to 13 and free to children younger than 7. Immediate family members of deployed service men and women eat for free.

TUESDAY, DEC. 11

Musical variety program: Featuring "The Classic Three," 7 p.m. at Garden Valley Retirement Village, 1505 E. Spruce St. The public is encouraged to attend at no charge. For more information, call 275-5036.

THURSDAY, DEC. 13

Potter's Guild Holiday Art Sale: Featuring hand-made ceramics and sculpture by Garden City Community College art students and established southwest Kansas artists, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the lobby of the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building at the college, 801 Campus Drive. Most items priced from $5 to $50. Cash or checks accepted.

Winter Instrumental Music Concert: Featuring classic, contemporary and seasonal selections by the Garden City Community College Concert Band and GCCC Jazz Ensemble, 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building at the college, 801 Campus Drive. Free admission.

FRIDAY, DEC. 14

Commencement ceremony: For December graduates of the Garden City Community College Practical Nursing Program, 10 a.m. at Garden City Church of the Nazarene, 2720 Campus Drive.

SUNDAY, DEC. 16

Singles dance: Featuring "Calhouns" from 7 to 10:30 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge, U.S. Highway 83 and Mary Street. Sponsored by Garden City Singles, the dance is open to the public. People attending must be age 21 or older.

Vespers Concert: Featuring classical and contemporary seasonal selections by the Garden City Community College Concert Choir, the select College Singers ensemble and GCCC Strings, with additional musicians from the community, 3 p.m. in the auditorium of the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building at the college, 801 Campus Drive. Free admission.

Hours at the Finney County Health Department, 919 Zerr Road, are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Friday hours are 8 a.m. to noon.
