TODAY, DEC. 14

"Tails in Tinseltown": Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo event 8 a.m. to noon in the Finnup Center, and includes breakfast in Mrs. Claus's Parlor, Christmas train rides, a children's craft and a meet-and-greet with Old Saint Nick. Guests can view decorated Christmas trees as they are showcased during the event and also during the Finnup Center's regular hours of 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. Advance passes to the event are $5 per person and are available at the Finnup Center, www.folrz.org and Splatterworks, 214 N. Main St. General admission passes will be available at the door for $10 per person the day of the event. Kansas Humanities Council's Talk About Literature in Kansas (TALK) program: Featuring the final book in the "Coming of Age in Rural America" series, 11 a.m. at the Finney County Public Library, 605 E. Walnut St., with Sister Rosemary Kolich of the University of Saint Mary leading a discussion of "Under the Feet of Jesus" by Helena Maria Viramontes, which chronicles the harsh context of migrant life as a young girl's Latino family struggles with arduous farm labor and still hopes for a liberating future. Labrador Ridge luminaries: Featuring nearly 10,000 luminaries on display from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the entire area north of Mary Street, between Third and Fleming streets. The Edith Scheuerman Sign Choir will be singing at the corner of Belmont Place and Labrador Ridge from 7:30 to 8 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held on Sunday. Tuba Christmas Concert: 3 p.m. on Grant Avenue in downtown Garden City.

Singles dance: Featuring "Stevens" from 7 to 10:30 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge, U.S. Highway 83 and Mary Street. Sponsored by Garden City Singles, the dance is open to the public. People attending must be age 21 or older.
