TODAY, OCT. 6

Opening reception for 14th Annual Sandhills Art Association Juried Exhibition: 2 to 4 p.m. in Mercer Gallery in the west wing of the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building at Garden City Community College, 801 Campus Drive. Free admission. Exhibition continues through Oct. 25 with free public viewing hours of 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

SUNDAY, OCT. 7

Pet blessing: 3 p.m. at Community Congregational Church, 710 N. Third St. The blessing will be in the gazebo at the church. In case of inclement weather it will be moved inside to Finnup Hall.

TUESDAY, OCT. 9

Musical variety program: Featuring the music group "Born in a Barn" directed by Larry Bilberry, 7 p.m. at Garden Valley Retirement Village, 1505 E. Spruce St. The public is encouraged to attend at no charge.

THURSDAY, OCT. 11

"Deadly Nightcap": Garden City Recreation Commission's fifth annual Fall Murder Mystery at the State Theatre, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12 and 13, 2:30 p.m. Oct. 14 and a special "Pay-What-You-Can" Preview Performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The special preview night is specially designed for those who may not be able to afford the $10 tickets, but is open to all. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and Arts Angels. For an extra $5.50, patrons receive a ticket good for a special dinner served at Fresh Bites Café prior to showtime. Dinner theatre tickets must be purchased by Monday to allow time for meals to be ordered. Tickets are available at the activity center, 310 N. Sixth St., from any cast and crew or at the door. FRIDAY, OCT. 12

Garden City Community College Health Care Career Fair: For students and job seekers from the campus and community, featuring 10 to 20 health care employers and training providers, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Penka Building of Practical Arts and Sciences at the college, 801 Campus Drive. SATURDAY, OCT. 13

German supper and auction: Featuring homemade German foods and great entertainment from 5 to 8 p.m. at Garden Valley Retirement Village, 1505 E. Spruce St., with all proceeds used for buying Christmas presents for GVRV residents. For meal tickets, call 275-9651.

"Walk To End Alzheimer's": Registration begins at 3:30 p.m. and the walk begins at 4 p.m. at Lee Richardson Zoo in Garden City. Funds raised will go directly toward supporting the efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. Information about the walk or to form a team is available at http://act.alz.org/2012gardencity.

Dog Jog and Pet Expo: Featuring a silent auction, dog and cat photo contest, numerous vendors, pets available for adoption, face painting, cake walk, pet costume contest and more, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Livestock Building at the Finney County Fairgrounds in Garden City. Sponsored by the Finney County Humane Society.

Health Department

Hours at the Finney County Health Department, 919 Zerr Road, are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Friday hours are 8 a.m. to noon.

Ambassador Singers practice: 1 p.m. Thursday.

Yoga: 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Line dancing: 8:30 a.m. Friday.

Medical equipment drop-off (gently used, durable equipment): 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.

Bridge: 12:45 p.m. Friday.
