The USD 457 Board of Education took the following action at it's meeting Monday night:
- Accepted the following resignations: Kelly Shivers, Title I paraprofessional at Gertrude Walker Elementary School; Jessica Guevara, special education para at Edith Scheuerman Elementary School.
- Hired: Jennifer Camilleri, Novi, Mich., for a special education position at Bernadine Sitts Intermediate Center; Nancy Eckels, Scott City, for a half-time math coach position at Alta Brown Elementary School; Rita Galliart, Anthony, special education at Abe Hubert Middle School; Amanda Wehrman, McPherson, for an art position at Garden City High School; A'Lana Bates, Mason, Mich., for an eighth-grade English/Language arts position at Abe Hubert; Brittney Cloyd, Sterling, Ill., eighth-grade reading position at Kenneth Henderson Middle School; Patience DeRoo, Paw Paw, Mich., English as a Second Language at Charles O. Stones Intermediate Center; Dee Jones, Garden City, half-time literacy coach at Plymell Elementary School; Lorretta Robinson, Holly, Mich., special education at Charles O. Stones; Tirra Elder, Smart Start administrative assistant at Russell Child Development Center; Areceli Ramirez, secretary at Educational Support Center.
- Approved the following transfers: Vicki Gile, second grade at Jennie Wilson Elementary School to half-time literacy coach at Jennie Barker Elementary School and half-time Title 1 interventionist at Jennie Wilson; Duane Jones, from special education at Abe Hubert to special education at Kenneth Henderson; Julia Cantu, bilingual para at New Outlook Academy to special education para at Charles O. Stones; Alishea Guebara, day care para at GCHS to special education para at Florence Wilson and Victor Ornelas.
- Accepted the following retirements: Judy Guinard, duplicating technician at plant facilities and the copy center; Richard Ploof, crossing guard at Buffalo Jones.
- Appointed Mike Utz as school board president and John Scheopner as vice president.
- Allotted more money for two students at GCHS who are attending a national forensics tournament. Board policy allows the district to pay up to $750 per person for national trips. Darren Dennis, director of learning services, requested the district pay the difference, a total of $1,098.50, because there's enough money left in the budget. The team traveled to Birmingham, Ala.
- Approved a resolution to establish a petty cash fund at some schools. The fund would allow for schools to pay expenses for district purposes in emergencies. The fund amounts to between $100 and $500. Schools with funds include Edith Scheuerman, Garfield Elementary School, Kenneth Henderson, the transportation department, plant facilities and superintendent's office.
