O'Neil paces Beavers to Orange & Black title

Scott City 71, Palmer Ridge, Colo. 57

Trey O'Neil scored 26 points on Saturday night to lead the Scott City Beavers to a 71-57 victory and claim the Colby Orange & Black Classic title.

The Beavers held a sizeable lead, 36-19, heading into halftime and they were able to keep scoring in the second half as they scored 17 and 18 points, respectively, in each of the final two periods.

The leading scorer for the Bears was Matt Cameron, who had a game-high 27 points.

Hugoton 56, Burlington, Colo., 47

In the seventh-place game at the Orange and Black Classic at Colby, the Hugoton Eagles defeated the Burlington, Colo., Cougars, 56-47, behind Jeison Rodriguez, who had a team-high 19 points.

The Eagles were up at halftime 30-25 and then found themselves down by one entering the fourth period, but played well defensively in the fourth period as they held the Cougars to four points.

The leading scorer for the Cougars was Eloy Sandoval, who had a game high 24 points.

For third place at the Orange and Black Classic at Colby, the Hugoton Lady Eagles defeated the Liberal Lady Redskins, 63-53, with the help of Katy Heger, who had a team-high 17 points.

The Lady Eagles were down at the end of the first period by one, but went on to lead at the end of every period for the rest of the contest.

The leading scorer for the Lady Redskins was Jai Chapman, who had a game-high 25 points.

McCook, Neb., 49, Scott City 33

For fifth place at the Orange and Black Classic at Colby, the McCook, Neb., Lady Bison took care of business against the Scott City Lady Beavers, 49-33, with the help of Tiara Schmidt, who had a game-high 25 points.

The Lady Beavers were down at the end of the first period but managed to tie it up at 26 by halftime, before sputtering offensively in the second half as they were only able to score seven points.

The leading scorer for the Lady Beavers was Bailey Nickel, who had 14 points.
