Members of the 25th Judicial District Nominating Commission will convene Tuesday to choose candidates to fill a judicial vacancy in the District Court.

The position opened up following the retirement of former District Court Judge Thomas Richardson, who retired in April after serving 14 years.

The six candidates will be interviewed at the following times: Shirley K. Calvin, 10:15 a.m.; Hon. Christopher D. Sanders, 10:45 a.m.; Hon. Ricklin R. Pierce, 11:30 a.m.; Wendel W. Wurst, 1:15 p.m.; Susan H. Richmeier, 1:45 p.m.; and Hon. Wade Dixon, 2:15 p.m. All six are lawyers by profession and Sanders, Pierce and Dixon are also district court magistrate judges.

At least two, but not more than three, candidates' names will be forwarded to the governor's office by the commission after Tuesday's forum, said Gerald Schultz, the commission's secretary.

The chosen candidates then will be interviewed by Gov. Mark Parkinson, who will nominate the new judge. The judge will handle cases in the district that includes Finney, Greeley, Hamilton, Kearny, Scott and Wichita counties.

The commission will begin procedures at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the main courtroom of the Finney County District Courthouse. Much of the forum, including the interviews, is open to the public. The commission is chaired by Kansas Supreme Court Justice Dan W. Biles, a nonvoting member of the commission.
