Three members of the 2013 Garden City Telegram All-Area Top 11 football team have been named to the 2014 Kansas Shrine Bowl West team.

The list includes quarterback Greyson Tempel of Garden City, quarterback-defensive back-wide receiver Heath Tucker of Holcomb, and defensive end-running back-receiver Warren Kropp of Scott City.

Tempel was The Telegram's Player of the Year following a banner 2013 season in which he accounted for nearly 4,000 yards of offense and set numerous passing and rushing records at GCHS while leading the Buffs to a Class 6A semifinal appearance.

Tucker, also a multi-sport athlete, was responsible for nearly 2,000 yards of offense in guiding the Longhorns to a Class 3A second-round contest. It was his first year at quarterback for HHS after playing wide receiver earlier in his prep career. He was one of the most dangerous return players in southwest Kansas.

Kropp was one of the defensive keys for the Beavers as Scott City advanced to the Class 3A semifinals during what many considered a rebuilding year.

This year's game will be played at 7 p.m. on July 26 at Carney Smith Stadium on the campus of Pittsburg State University.

Head coach for the West squad will be Steve Martin of Wichita Northwest.

Also named to the West squad were Trenton Hammond of Liberal, Morgan Olvera of Meade, and Preston Weigel of Hays High

This will be the 41st edition of the Shrine Bowl, which brings together the top senior players from Kansas.

All Shrine Bowl events are produced and presented to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children [SHC]. SHC is a health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research, and outstanding teaching programs for medical professionals. Children up to the age of 18 are eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environment, regardless of the patients' ability to pay.
