Senior Center of Finney County can help with energy assistance forms

The Kansas Low Income Energy Assistance Program is a federally funded program that helps eligible households pay a portion of their home energy costs. Benefit levels vary according to the following factors: 1) household income; 2) number of persons living at the address; 3) type of dwelling; 4) type of heating fuel; and 5) utility rates.

Benefit levels vary according to the following factors: 1) household income; 2) number of persons living at the address; 3) type of dwelling; 4) type of heating fuel; and 5) utility rates.

To qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the state of Kansas and you must need financial assistance for home energy costs. Eligible households receive a one-time benefit. You can apply online or download an application here at the following Internet address: http://www.srs.ks.gov/agency/ees/Pages/Energy/EnergyAssistance.aspx.

You will be asked to provide the following information:

* Social Security numbers for everyone in your household that has one

* Income information such as wages and child support

* Utility account information, such as vendor name(s) and account number(s)

* Primary fuel type that heats your home

* Landlord's name, address and phone number (if utilities are in their name)

Avoid delays in the processing of your application by doing the following:

* Make sure you completely answer all questions

* Provide copies of all requested documents

* Make sure you have signed the application

The completed application must be received no later than close of business on the final business day of March. An application is not complete until it is signed and proof of utility accounts and income for all household members has been received.

Allow 30 to 45 days for the processing of your application. If you have questions or need assistance please call 1-(800)-432-0043. Printed applications are available at the senior center.

Scheduled activities

Thursday begins with TOPS at 9 a.m. Computer class is at 9 a.m., followed by art class at 10 a.m. Gentle exercises start at 11 a.m. A domino tournament begins at 1 p.m. The Ambassador Singers practice at 1 p.m. Skip-Bo begins at 1 p.m. Strength Training for Seniors is at 5:15 p.m. Yoga is at 6:30 p.m.

Friday starts with line dancing at 8:30 a.m. Craft Shop check-in/out is from 10 a.m. to noon. A nurse from St. Catherine Hospital will be available from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Bridge starts at 12:45 p.m. The Senior Citizens Association's covered dish dinner begins at 6 p.m. We will hear from city and county representatives regarding the special election on March 4 about sales tax. Join us for dinner and education.

Saturday, the pool room is open from 1 to 4 p.m.

Sunday has duplicate bridge at 2 p.m.

Monday has double pinochle at 12:30 p.m. Strength Training for Seniors is at 5:15 p.m. Duplicate bridge starts at 7 p.m.

Tuesday has walking at 8:30 a.m. Computer class is at 9 a.m. The Craft Shop committee will meet at 10 a.m. Gentle exercises start at 11 a.m. Pitch begins at 12:30 p.m. Bridge begins at 1:30 p.m.

Feb. 12 begins with line dancing at 8:30 a.m. TOPS No. 1116 meets at 10 a.m. Pinochle begins at 12:30 p.m. Completely Unraveled meets at 1 p.m. The dance at 7:30 p.m. features the Moonshiners. The recommended donation is $5 per person.

Health tip

February's healthy living goal is to work out three times a week for at least 30 minutes. Already exercising? Increase to five times a week.

Lunch menu

Lunch is served at noon.

Thursday: Hot beef sandwich with potatoes and gravy, broccoli and pineapple upside down cake.

Friday: Baked fish, peas and carrots, winter-mix vegetables, roll, ranger cookie.

Monday: Smothered steak, scalloped potatoes, spinach, bread, citrus fruit cup.

Tuesday: Porcupine meatballs, rice, marinated tomatoes, bread, blueberry gelatin salad.

Feb. 12: Oven-fried chicken, potatoes and gravy, green beans, roll, creamy fruit salad.
