Three students were taken to the hospital after a school bus accident Monday morning in Finney County.

At 7:05 a.m., a school bus with 37 students on board was eastbound on Annie Scheer Road and failed to yield at a stop sign at U.S. 83 and was struck by a pickup, according to Kansas Highway Patrol trooper Mike Racey.

Roxanna Saenz, 13, Maria Peregrino, 9, and Wyatt McElroy 12, all of Garden City, were taken to St. Catherine Hospital with minor injuries and were treated and released.

The bus driver, Ronald Sherraden, 72, Garden City, was taken to St. Catherine and was listed in good condition Monday night. The driver of the pickup, John Browning, 53, Ulysses, was treated and released at St. Catherine.

Roy Cessna, public information coordinator for USD 457, said a "number" of students on the bus were headed to Plymell Elementary School, and others were headed to Horace Good Middle School and Garden City High School.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
