Senior Center pinochle

Carol Bradford won high in the four tables of Senior Center pinochle played Wednesday at the Senior Center of Finney County, 907 N. 10th St. Mary Ann Binns took second place. Third went to Raymond Hands.

Duplicate bridge

The Garden City Duplicate Bridge Club members welcomed Mark Newman to the game Feb. 1 and played four full tables in a 28 board Howell movement, making 42 game contracts, 16 in no-trump and half of the six slams bid were made.

Dorothy Bartlett and Irene Bryant took first place with a 60 percent game, while J.D. and Rusty Farr were second, and May Craig and Jon Kempton were third with a 55 percent game.

Three tables played at the Jan. 31 session, making 26 games, more than half in no-trump. The Farrs and Helen Lee with Shirley Klotz posted 59 percent games for a first/second-place tie after the final board.

Regular games begin at 7 p.m. Monday and 1:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Senior Center of Finney County, 907 N. 10th St., plus newly sanctioned games begin at 2 p.m. on the second, third and fourth Sundays, with all bridge players welcome. For partners, call Kempton at 276-2876.

8-Ball Tournament

The team of Barry Brown and Jacob Farr took first place at the 8-Ball Tournament Tuesday at the Senior Center of Finney County. Second place went to Jesse Otero and Jesse Arteaga. Otero was the winner of the 7-11 prize.

The pool room at the Senior Center, 907 N. 10th St., is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Anyone age 55 and older is invited to come and play.

An 8-Ball Tournament is played from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each Tuesday and is open to anyone age 45 and older.

Senior Center bridge

Monica Reilley won high in Friday's session of Senior Center bridge at the Senior Center of Finney County, 907 N. 10th St.

Evelyn Branson took second place. Third went to Rita Retherford.

Hahn sells hog

Schuyler Hahn of Garden City sold a Reserve Champion Poland Hog for $2,000 at the National Western Stock Show's Auction of Junior Livestock Champions on Jan. 22.

The winning bidder was Cille B. Williams.

The auction featured 97 animals -- steers, lambs, hogs and goats -- selling for about $460,097.

Ten percent of each winning bid will be contributed to the National Western Scholarship Trust that supports 74 agribusiness and rural medical scholarships at universities and community colleges throughout Colorado and Wyoming. This year the contribution totaled about $46,009.

More than 981 animals from 27 states competed in the national junior competition.
