Garden Valley to host National Day of Prayer

Garden Valley to host National Day of Prayer

A National Day of Prayer service will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at "Chapel at the Village" at Garden Valley Retirement Village, 1505 E. Spruce St.

The Rev. Terry Major, Pierceville Federated Church, will deliver the devotional message. Fielding Hands and Gwyneth Frack will present special music. For more information, call 275-5036.

Also, "An Hour of Praise and Prayer in the Park," an event marking National Day of Prayer, is scheduled for noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Stevens Park. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Word of Life Church, 3004 N. Third St. Call 276-3825 for more information.

Miles of Smiles

volunteer meeting set

Volunteers are needed to help the Miles of Smiles Therapeutic Horseback Riding Program with its summer session. Miles of Smiles provides recreational horsemanship lessons for people with mental, physical and emotional disabilities.

New volunteers must attend the training/informational meeting at 2 p.m. Saturday at 901 W. Maple St. Experience with horses and/or disabilities is not necessary to volunteer. Volunteers must be age 14 or older, or accompanied by an adult. A minimum of one hour per week is required of each volunteer. For more information, call 260-9997 or 271-4925.

Summer session will run May 28 through June 27. Lessons will be conducted on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Thursday mornings, and volunteers can choose the class that best fits their schedule.

GCCC fall semester enrollment open

Fall semester enrollment for 2013 is open to the public at Garden City Community College. Classes for the fall semester are scheduled to get under way Aug. 21 and summer semester courses start May 28.

Students can register now for fall and summer. Registration is offered all spring and summer at the GCCC Student and Community Services Center, where assistance is available 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fridays.

GCCC is offering credit courses for people to build skills, advance toward degrees, prepare for job and career opportunities or enrich life through learning.

In addition to regular fall registration for the public, the college has four remaining Fall Early Enrollment Days, including May 2, May 6, June 3 and July 15. While regular enrollment is offered on a walk-in basis, the special days require reservations at 276-9608.
