Garden City RadioShack store shuttered

Garden City's RadioShack store has closed its doors.

The electronics retailer, located at 2214 E. Kansas Ave. Suite 10, closed Sunday, according to a person who answered the phone Friday morning. Reasons for the closure were not provided, and all inquiries were referred to RadioShack's corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas.

A media relations spokesperson said in an email that RadioShack's company policy is not to comment or release information about store closures. It is unclear whether Garden City's store closure is part of a larger group of RadioShack store shutdowns or is an isolated closure.

According to a Dec. 26, 2012, Wall Street Journal article, RadioShack was one of several retailers predicted to face a tough year in 2013 because its "bet on mobile phones and tablets has backfired."

On Jan. 15, RadioShack ended a partnership with Target on selling mobile phones because the two retailers couldn't agree on a deal.
