Girls: Hugoton, Meade advance to sub-state championships

Class 2A sub-state semifinals

Meade 65, Wichita Co. 42

At Syracuse, Bailey Olvera's game-high 19 points helped the Meade Lady Buffaloes head to the sub-state title game as they soundly beat the Wichita County Lady Indians, 65-42, in the 2A sub-state tournament.

The Lady Buffaloes comfortably led by 11 points at the end of the first period and were able to extend that lead to 16 points by intermission and 29 points by the beginning of the final period.

Kaina Mancillas led the Lady Indians in scoring with 12 points.

Jaylin Stapleton added another 14 points for the Lady Buffaloes.

Meade will face off against the Ness City Lady Eagles on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Ness City 56, Syracuse 34

At Syracuse, the Ness City Lady Eagles defeated the Syracuse Lady Bulldogs, 56-34, in the 2A sub-state tournament to advance to the sub-state title game.

The Lady eagles had a commanding lead by halftime, 30-18, and they continued roll offensively as they scored 13 points in both periods of the second half.

Reagan Wilson led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with eight points while teammate Sydney Brown added another six.

Ness City will face off against the Meade Lady Buffaloes on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Class 4A-II sub-state semifinals

Hugoton 57, Scott City 33

At Goodland, the Hugoton Lady Eagles romped the Scott City Lady Beavers, 57-33, in the 4A sub-state tournament to advance to the title game with freshman Amy Scott leading the way with 19 points.

The Eagles only held a two-point lead at the end of the first period and were able to push it to just eight points by halftime, but from then on it was all Hugoton as they outscored the Lady Beavers 16 points.

Bailey Nickel had 11 points for the Lady Beavers while teammate Kelly Wcyoff added another nine.

Riley Sosa added another 11 points and teammate Katy Heger added 10 for the victorious Lady Eagles.

Hugoton will play the Goodland Cowgirls on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Goodland 40, Colby 31

At Goodland, Kate-Lynn King led the way with a game-high 14 points helping the Goodland Cowgirls defeat the Colby Lady Eagles in overtime, 40-31, to head to the sub-state title game in 4A.

The Cowgirls led by five at the end of the first period but found themselves down by one point at intermission, a deficit that only grew until they were down by four entering the fourth period. In the fourth period, the Cowgirls were able to score 12 points to tie the game up then score 12 again in overtime to win.

Haileigh Shull led the Lady Eagles in scoring with nine points.

The Cowgirls will play Hugoton on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Class 4A-I sub-state semifinals

McPherson 54, Ulysses 21

At McPherson, the trio of Hannah Willems, Madison Hoffman, and Abby Pedersen all scored 10 points to lead the McPherson Lady Bulldogs to victory against the Ulysses Lady Tigers, 54-21, in the 4A sub-state tournament to advance to the title game.

The Lady Bulldogs led the entire way, at one time having a lead of 33 points.

Morgan Price from Ulysses tied the game high for the Lady Tigers with 10 points.

McPherson will play against the Buhler Lady Crusaders on Saturday at 6 p.m.
