Boys: Ingalls, Moscow move on in Class 1A-II; Jackrabbits hop on

Class 3A sub-state

Kingman 56, SW Heights 54

At Kingman, the Kingman Eagles defeated the Southwestern Heights Mustangs in the first round of the Class 3A sub-state tournament, 56-54, with the assistance of Mitchell Packard, who scored a game-high 18 points.

The Mustangs found themselves down by four at the end of the first period, and even after scoring 24 points to close out the first half, the Mustangs were down by nine at intermission. The scoring pace dropped dramtically in the thrid period, as the two teams combined for only five points. The Mustangs finally were able to outscore the Eagles in a period by nabbing eight more than Kingman in the final period, but it wasn't enough for the win.

Nathan Johnsrud and Cody Jennings were the scorers in double digits for the Mustangs with 17 and 15 points, respectively.

The Kingman Eagles will go on to play the Garden Plain Owls, who won their matchup against the Cimarron Bluejays, 66-52.

Class 1A-II sub-state

At Rolla

Ingalls 55, Bucklin 25

Led by LaMontae Heady, who had a game-high 14 points, the Ingalls Bulldogs defeated the Bucklin Red Aces, 55-25, in the first round of the sub-state tournament.

The Bulldogs took a quick 13-point lead at the end of the first period and were able to push that lead to 27 points at halftime. The Red Aces were more competitive in the second half, only being outscored by three points.

The Red Aces had five players lead the team with four points apiece.

Isaac Baxa added another 10 points for the victorious Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs will play the Fowler Goldbugs (17-3) on Thursday.

Moscow 50, Rolla 21

The Moscow Wildcats rolled over the Rolla Pirates, 50-21, in the first round of the sub-state tournament with the help of Brice Valdez's game-high 16 points.

The Wildcats held a slight two-point lead at the end of the first that they pushed to 15 points by halftime. Matt Pearson added 12.

Jaron Rusch scored nine points for a team high for the Rolla Pirates.

The Moscow Wildcats will play the Ashland Blue Jays (12-8) on Thursday.

At Tribune

Greeley Co. 75, West. Plains 67

Led by Martin Valeta, who tied a game high with 23 points, the Greeley County Jackrabbits defeated the Western Plains Bobcats in overtime, 75-67, in the first round of the sub-state tournament.

The Jackrabbits had been outscored by 20 points at intermission, but were able to tie the game up to send it into overtime by scoring 20 points in both of the last two periods. They then finished off the comeback win with a 19-11 overtime period.

Chad Ryersee from Western Plains had 23 points.

The Greeley County Jackrabbits will take on the Wallace County Wildcats on Thursday.
