Annual Pawnee Fry set for Monday

The 65th Annual Pawnee Fry is set for Monday at the Pawnee Acre Community Building located four miles north and three miles east of the U.S.-156 and K-23 junction in northeast Finney County.

The evening will begin with a meal at 6:30 p.m. that includes calf fries, ham sandwiches and all the trimmings. Following the meal will be a "Cowboy Poetry" featured program. Leonard Hitz and Company will be the entertainment for the event.

The public is invited to attend. For more information, call the Finney County Extension Office at 272-3670 or Larry Scott at (620) 855-3371. Reservations are not required.

Humane Society to host adoption event

The Finney County Humane Society will have an adoption event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Tractor Supply in Garden City.

The group's "Date Dine" give-away tickets will be available during the event and also are available at the animal shelter on Fleming Street and at Davis Designs in downtown Garden City. The drawing will take place Feb. 9.

Town hall meetings slated for Huelskamp

Kansas First District Congressman Tim Huelskamp is hosting several town hall meetings over the next week, including one in Cimarron at 2 p.m. today in the Commissioners' Room at the Gray County Courthouse.

Other town halls are scheduled for next week in Wamego, St. Francis, Atwood, Oberlin, Norton and Hill City.

Parent meeting set to discuss enrollment

There will be a meeting with parents concerning enrollment of eighth-grade students for their freshman year at Garden City High School at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the GCHS Freshman Resource Center, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd. Students will need to bring their pre-enrollment packets to this meeting.

GCHS administrators and counselors will be at the meeting to discuss the pre-enrollment process, general information about GCHS, and graduation requirements.

Garden City High School counselors will be finalizing enrollment with the students at the middle schools.

Counselors will be at Kenneth Henderson Middle School on Monday and at Horace J. Good Middle School on Tuesday. The counselors will be finishing up the enrollment process on Wednesday at Kenneth Henderson Middle School and Jan. 31, at Horace J. Good Middle School.

Students that are new to the district will need to go to the Educational Support Center, 1205 Fleming Street, to enroll. Please check in at the Information Desk at the Center for directions to enroll students.
