Wichita County cross country and track and field distance runner Paige Wells has become the third athlete from The Telegram area to sign a letter of intent to attend Wichita State University next school year.

Wells, who will graduate in May, recently inked her letter with the Lady Shockers, joining Garden City hurdler David DuVall and Ulysses sprinter/long jumper Tate Annis as the latest additions to the WSU cross country/track teams.

She has placed second, fourth, third and ninth in her four state cross country competitions. Wells placed third in the Class 2A 1,600-meters as a freshman; had seconds in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs in 2011 at the state track meet in Wichita and then was second in the 1,600 and fifth in the 800 at the 2012 state meet.

Wells had the second fastest 800-meter time of 2:21.79 and the fastest 1,600-meters at 5:16.16 in 2012.

and the third fastest mark in the 3,200-meters (11:57.9).

"I'm really looking forward to my senior year in track, especially now that I'm finally healthy," Wells said. "I've got some high goals and can't wait for the season to get started."
