Opal Faye Hammond

SYRACUSE — Opal Faye Hammond, 89, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Dec. 15, 1923, in Fargo, Okla., to Alva J. and Susie R. McCandless.
She married James F. Hammond in Johnson City on April 21, 1941. She was a cook for the VIP and Hamilton County Hospital for several years.
Mrs. Hammond was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Aleta Faye Crow and Alma Fern Hogue; a son, Terrance "Tiny" Franklin Hammond; two sisters, Elizabeth Allison and Darlene Bell; a half-sister, Pearl Crane; two half-brothers, Vern Tieman and Clyde Folkers; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Survivors include two sons, Alva Hammond of Goodwell, Okla., and Zeke Hammond of Syracuse; a daughter, Linda Salcido of Dodge City; two sisters, Martha Adams of Manter and Fern Wait of Springfield, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 12 great great-grandchildren.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. (MST) Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Syracuse; burial will follow in the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson City.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. (MST) Sunday at Fellers Funeral Home LLC in Syracuse.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Opal Hammond Memorial Fund in care of Fellers Funeral Home & Monuments LLC.
