Ernest Lee Groth, 83, died Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.
He was born July 7, 1929, in Garden City to George and Florence (Hickman) Groth.
On June 3, 1950, he married Luanne Keith in Clayton, N.M.
He was a farmer-stockman in Haskell County for many years and he and his wife also owned the Pheasant Inn Motel and Café. In 1981 they moved to Ohio City, Colo., and to Gunnison in 1983 where they owned and operated an ice business for 10 years.
In 2010 they moved to Garden City. He enjoyed playing the stock market and flying his airplane. His passion was going on cruises and traveling. They went to Hawaii four times and visited South America, Montreal, East & West Caribbean Islands and other places.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, John Paul Groth.
Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Delores Buller of Kansas City, Mo., and Kendra Galle of Moundridge; a brother, John Groth of Wichita, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Haskell County Cemetery in Sublette.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
Memorials are suggested to High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
