Marshall ordinary in Auburn debut

Former Garden City Community College quarterback Nick Marshall had a shaky debut with Auburn University on Saturday.
Marshall threw for only 99 yards and no touchdowns on 10-of-19 passing against Washington State in his first start in Division I. He also ran for 31 yards on nine carries.
Still, the Tigers' running game was dynamic, rushing for over 300 yards and leading Auburn to the 31-24 win in the season opener.
Marshall did improve as the game wore on, though, completing only 2 of his 8 passes in the first half and then going 8 for 11 for 79 yards in the second half.
Marshall was named the starter for Auburn after a four-player quarterback battle leading up to the season.
Auburn now hosts Sun Belt opponent Arkansas State on Saturday.
